Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands Returns to Women Build

After a pandemic-induced hiatus lasting two long years, staffers from Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands once again kicked off their dress shoes and laced up their work boots to participate in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build 2022. Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands also once again proudly participated as a Women Build Bronze Hammer Sponsor.

“We value the supportive partnership we have developed with Habitat for Humanity, and the bankers on our staff cherish the time we spend together on the Women Build program,” said President Robbie Roepstorff. “It is such an honor and so in keeping with our bank’s core values to help construct much needed homes and build brighter futures for the women in our community.”

The bank’s “Build Day” took place on Saturday, April 30 and contributed towards a new home in Habitat’s Heritage Heights Community in South Fort Myers. Due to social distancing restrictions imposed on the build site, only seven bankers were permitted to participate this year – Kim Nyberg, Michele Reed, Paige Stefanski, Liz Aurensan, Sherry Parmeley, Cindy Nelson, and Susan Schulte.

“We did a lot of painting and had a lot of laughs – all for a wonderful cause!”, said Edison Vice President Liz Aurensan who led the bank’s 2022 team.

The mission of Women Build is to engage women in the effort to provide safe and decent homes for families in need of affordable housing. Each year, approximately half of local Habitat homeowner candidates are single mothers or female-headed households. By recruiting, educating, and inspiring women to build, Habitat for Humanity transforms lives in our community for generations to come.

Since 2011, the local Women Build campaign in which Edison bankers volunteer has built or rehabilitated 25 homes with partner families, giving more than 60 children the stability only a home can provide.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Edison National Bank is Lee County’s oldest locally owned and managed community bank, serving individuals and business owners with offices in Fort Myers, as well as the Bank of the Islands offices on Sanibel and Captiva. Founded in 1997, Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands is strongly rooted in the community and actively supports civic and charitable causes through both donations and volunteerism.
